Thoughts to consider…
Is God Angry at Japan?
"What did they do to make God this mad??"
If we answer “yes,” we must add a lot of other folks to the
list of those who are experiencing God’s anger. In the last 100 years
millions have died in natural disasters all over the world. Over one million
have died just since the year 2000 in India, Europe, Iran, the Asian
Tsunami, Pakistan, Burma, China, and in the US. Earthquakes, hurricanes,
volcanos, floods, and fires, continue to ravish us all. If God is angry with
Japan, He is angry with us all.
The last thing the Japanese
need to hear is that God has singled them out for His wrath. What
they do need to hear is that God suffers for a long time with all of us and
that He is not willing that any should perish. He does want us all to
repent. (2 Peter 3:9).The Japanese people need our love, comfort, and
respect for their nobility and self-sacrifice in this horrible hour. They do
not need the crass humor and self righteous judgment of some celebrities and
bloggers.
Japan also needs answers.
Why does
God allow for disaster and suffering? In reality we have all rejected the
knowledge of God. We have all sinned, even the best of us. (Romans 3:21-23).
Sin brings its own consequences. Sin always brings us to death and
destruction. From time to time, God does bring judgment upon men so that we
can all see its consequences in advance. The Bible says that even the
creation itself groans under the curse of sin and its consequence (Romans
8:20-22). When we see the effects of this curse from the thistles in Adam’s
garden all the way to the world’s greatest disasters we should look directly
at ourselves.
God will eventually judge men who have rejected
Him and bring an end to this long war against God. God’s wrath has
been revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and ungodliness of men who
hold the truth in unrighteousness. (Romans 1:18). In the end, God has
revealed His wrath so that we might find His love and forgiveness through
His son who came and died to take away our sin. John 3:16,17, 36.
You can avoid God’s wrath.
